Rusty Comes Home

Rusty's Mom here: Today started out being a very bad day. I cried from the time I got up this morning, I don't know why, but I was just feeling the loss of Rusty so much. Then the vet's office called. Rusty's remains were ready to be picked up. I didn't know how I would feel, and I was already being torn about what to do with him. Should I bury him in his favorite place in the yard or should I just keep him close to me? Well, I didn't realize this, but he came back in a very nice wooden box. They made me a cast of his paw print, which made me cry again. But, I decided for now that he should be on his window ledge where he always sat and watched outside. So, that's where he is.

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments and thoughts. I cried while reading them but they let me know how much Rusty was loved by so many friends here.

It's such a difficult time. I really feel for you.

When our Tommy died, his remains were put in an urn, and I kept them on a shelf in the family room for several years. Finally, I decided that he should be outside in the yard where he loved to the most. So, we sprinkled his ashes under the willow bushes where he liked to hide.

Just go with your heart and how you feel at the time. I'm sure Rusty's watching over you and will approve of whatever you choose to do. The love didn't die, only the physical body.

Rusty's Mom, I am Sabrina, Sam and Simon's Momma Jan. When I had to send my tuxie boy Max to the Bridge, I put his remains in a special wooden box I have had since I was a child, and it is in the kitties' room. I see his memorial every day; it gives me comfort to know that he is still there for me. I know how heartbreaking this is for you, and you have to decide what is best for you and Rusty ... but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs from me and the kitties,
Momma Jan

That sounds like the perfect place for him! When Wizard came home in his beautiful wooden box I has the place picked out. He always wanted to nap on the mantle and he loved boxes. So his box is on the mantle. We did not get a paw cast! That was very special!

I think Rusty is happy knowing that he's still with you, in his favorite spot.
I have a shelf in the bedroom with ashes and mementos from my furkids, and I smile every time I see it.
It's OK to cry and mourn, Rusty was a wonderful friend for many years. I'm crying too.
Love, Trish

The mom speaks:

I so understand how difficult a day this must have been. Both joyful because Rusty came home, but sad beyond belief because it was his ashes. (((((hugs)))))

When I collected Henry's ashes (my beloved siamese 1985 ~ 2004) I too wept all day ~ and for days and days after. And yet it was comforting having my boy home ~ even in a box. I kept his ashes and they are still with me in a box by my desk. We have moved home since then and I couldn't imagine leaving him behind ~ so I know I did the right thing keeping him.

Rusty was very special and so you will always keep him safe within your heart ~ he has his own special place.

((((hugs)))) Now that Rusty is home with you where he belongs the pain should ease a little. It will never ever leave you. But as time passes it will become easier to smile at the memories

Oh I am so sorry that you have had such a sad time lately - Rusty was just such a wonderful sweet boy, it must be so hard for you. I remember how hard it was when we picked up Floyd's ashes - I am still sad about it even now. I think that putting his ashes in his favorite window to sit in is just such a wonderful, beautiful idea. We are sending you tons of comforting purrs and prayers and hugs.
