I took Rusty to the Vet today. He wasn't happy about it, but I thought it was best that I did.
His temperature was normal, 101.3. We had some simple blood kidney work done, since he does have some kidney issues and his results, while slightly higher that they were in January, they were not alarming.
The Vet said he was slightly dehydrated, but I think that maybe mostly because he hasn't eaten or drank much in the last couple days. So they gave him some sub-q fluids, just to bring him back up a bit.
The Vet said that she heard some "gurgling" when she listened to him, and thought that maybe he was coming down with an Upper Respirator Infection, so she gave me antibiotics to give him. I gave him one pill when we got home and two hours later, he threw up, I don't know if it's because he took the pill on pretty much an empty stomach and we all know how most antibiotics say not to take them on an empty stomach. I hope that he kept enough in him to improve.
The Vet warned me that because of his age, he could be susceptible to cancer and that if he didn't improve we should look in that direction. I understand that, but I hope that this is just a simple infection and that he improves in a day or two.
Right now, he's sleeping in his bed, and I'm just going to let him rest and keep an eye on him.
Keep Rusty in your prayers, hopefully in a couple days, he'll be back to tell you all about it.

Oh Rusty, I'm sorry you are feeling poorly! If you could try your hardest to eat something first, I think the antibiotics would not upset your stomach as much.

The upper respiratory infection is what Timtam has too. He also doesn't take well to him antibiotics (Synulox) and vomits any time a couple of hours after the pill is given. This mornings was all pinky so I know that the pill was in there (the pill is the same colour pink). Fortunately his last one is tonight and we'll see how he goes. I think the URI is cleared up so he should be ok. He is a confirmed vomiter even when not on drugs so I know that it's not too much of a problem, but it is amazing that some cats just take to these things and some don't. Our previous cat used to eat these same pills like they were candy, and never had an adverse reaction to them. Timtam is also allergic to vaccinations sometimes too and we often end up at the emergency vet late at night with a cat with high fever. *sigh*!
Cheers
Craig
